Come and build Betty Cipher's School of the Future! Sat 12th November at the Common House
Autonomous Tech Fetish (ATF) is calling for curious and critical people of all sorts to help us create Betty Cipher’s School of the Future, a new workshop programme located in the Common House. Because technological change moves fast, time is key for the development of useful counter practices and critical methods. We think this is best done collectively so we can learn from each other, share skills, and build paths forward. Over the last three years, ATF’s activities included workshops on data security, trash databases, libre graphics, data drinking tea gloves, embodied mapping, and DIY biometrics. We now want to move into a new phase, mixing our experiences with your ideas and insights to make a co-education programme for the future. Come to our first development meeting, where we’ll literally build our School of the Future through a creative model making exercise. This will be our way in to discussing a whole range of issues, such as: -how to give value to different kinds of knowledge and approaches to learning -how we might give central place to people too often sidelined in technical cultures (thinking about, but not limited to, race, gender, age, ability) -what sort of methods should we use (e.g. technology education, art methods, embodied learning) -how do we reach out to people? to who? -what do we explore first? Kids are welcome! We try to make everything we do accessible to all ages and abilities as far as we can, and are happy to provide alternative things to do if that makes more sense. Common House is wheelchair accessible but unfortunately the toilet isn’t yet. About us Autonomous Tech Fetish probes how digital technology is fetishised and how it can be re-configured to different needs and desires. We work with activist groups to affirm their technological autonomy and are committed to co-education exploring the pitfalls and potentials of technologies without assumptions.
