Does anyone have experience of using patreon?

Am not quite sure if it's a good idea, but it seems to be about getting
supported to make creative work and also building a community of fans/
supporters around your work. All things that I need and don't have, but the
way things work nowadays - galleries, publishers etc - I don't see how
creative people can possibly survive on their work, especially if it's not
mainstream "product"|.

So maybe this is the answer for those of us experimenting with
non-commercial creative projects?

Bit like kickstarter I suppose/ crowd funding.

Not sure how to use it yet, or how to make a success out of it.

It might be a waste of time though, like a lot of these online things ...

There's something a bit cheesy about it as well, the "best practices" video
I found particularly irritating, but maybe that's my old man response.
