Just want to point out that Google+ did the same thing; for a lot of us it's now almost unusable, and even Fb's "timeline" - is something you can't opt out of. We've reiterated over and over again that we're not in freely designed spaces anywhere here - we're riding corporate surfaces which gather as much data as possible from us and keep the lid on subversive content (my YouTube banning a case in point). There's still something to be said for sneaker mail and having live bodies show up in a space. The kind of swill you're describing is only going to increase - there's too much funny money at stake.
