I was using the term "window" in its abstract meaning, so that panes are
children of windows. What I meant is that the various panes can morph
functionalities, and have a history. So, it's possible to go back and forth
between the various views in a way that mimics multiple windows (in the
usual meaning of "window"). This is what I referred to when I mentioned
that I still prefer the ST solution.
