I do it like this:

<exec program="msbuild" output="msbuild_log.xml" failonerror="true">
        <arg value="myproj.proj"/>
        <arg line="/p:Configuration=Release"/>
</exec>

the msbuild.exe path will need be appended to your PATH env var also.
