The down side of this is that the parsing of the XML within the statement attribute would need to be handled by the code implementing <if>, instead of being handled by the XML parser itself. This is sufficiently fraught with peril that I suggest it should be avoided at all costs. Just my 5c (New Zealand doesn't have 2c coins).
