Great, thanks Jason. I currently have to maintain a number of Ant and NAnt scripts for my company and I just couldn't take the XML any more - thus NAntpad.
Keyboard shortcuts are a great idea and I'll try and get them in. There will be a toolbar and a right-click context menu. A preview window sounds like a good idea, but I guess currently a user could just save and review with an XML browser such as Internet Explorer - independent verification is generally preferred in most cases. Integration of NAnt execution functionality might be a bit further down the track. Drag and drop as well as cut/paste/move will definitely be in the release if not a beta. I'm going to work on dynamically loading NAnt task libraries as well as anybody else's over the weekend. Thanks for your impressions, let me know if you can think of anything else you would like to see in NAntpad. I'm going to try and get another beta out next week with a few improvements. I am trying it right now and I am very impressed! I have been waiting for something like this for a long time now. Thank you very much for making this freely downloadable. I know that you just released this beta, but I have a few comments for you already. I hope these help. * Will there be the standard keyboard shortcuts, e.g. ctrl-s for save, etc? * Will there be a button bar? * Is there any way to validate your build file against the latest nant schema? * Will you have a context menu (right-click) on a node and have the same options as the New menu? * A preview window, e.g. if I select a target in the tree view, the preview would show the whole target's xml. * Will there be a way to execute your builds from this tool? Might be out of scope for this tool... * Ability to format the text file differently upon save. I like a little more white space. * Ability to drag-n-drop the order of targets, task, etc Again, my first impressions of this tool is...awesome!! Nice job and look forward to continuing to use this tool. It saves me from getting lost in the somewhat tedious XML scripts which my company uses for larger projects. It incorporates a tree view and has user friendly icons that represent targets, properties, tasks, etc and it integrates the online help for NAnt. It also has a script editor for modifying inline code (with the script task). The project is currently in beta and is available for download at http://www.nantpad.com. Please feel free to download it and let me know what you think.
