So quite a while after acquiring an HDHR digital tuner, I was pushed
into finally deploying it by my cable provider (Comcast), as they
deleted the analog channels. (Though according to people in neighboring
towns, they're also planning to eliminate clear QAM, so the HDHR may end
up having a pretty limited useful life span for cable.)

Now I'm seeing for the first time what its like to playback an HDHR
sourced video with mvpmc, and its far worse than merely out of sync
audio. The audio stutters, and the video freezes. mvpmc effectively
locks up and requires a soft reset.

Is this typical, or is there something else going on here? I'm wondering
if the bitrate is too high, in addition to the expected audio problem.
The video should be ordinary SD, and as I understand it, cable companies
tend to scrimp on bitrates to maximize channel capacity, so it should be
lower than ATSC SD.

The obvious first thing to try will be transcoding the audio. I'll
process one video manually and see how it goes. If that fixes it, I'll
revisit Roger's transcoding wrapper script. (Though I don't need the
flexibility it provides and will likely use something simpler.)

Is it possible to configure MythTV to transcode all videos from a
particular source? I think I looked into this before and found you could
transcode (run a job against) all videos, but there was no mechanism to
only process one particular source.

I guess the workaround for that would be to create a script that always
runs, and have the script run some SQL to determine the tuner that was
used to make the recording.
