To do it manually, put this in ~/.vimrc:

        map _> :%s/^> $<CR>

and use _> everytime you need to.


To do it automatically, in ~/.muttrc:

        set editor = 'vi -u ~/.vimrc-mutt'

and then add this to your ~/.vimrc-mutt:

        au BufRead * normal :%s/^> $<CR><C-L>gg
