Thanks for all of the feedback.  The behavior isn't
exactly clear from the manual.  The fact that things
are permanently changed is mentioned for folder-hook
but *not* for send-hook.  IMO, it would make more
sense to have things temporary for sending mail, but
if a generic send-hook is required, then I will use that.
