#3781: ssl_ca_certificates_file: unknown variable

On OSX 10.10.5, if I try to set $ssl_ca_certificates_file to a valid cert
file, I get the error message: "ssl_ca_certificates_file: unknown
variable". It doesn't matter whether I try this in muttrc or from the
command prompt.
The docs say that this variable exists: 3.278. ssl_ca_certificates_file
I don't get it. I have mutt compiled against openssl.
