Hi Phillip,
Dynamic metadata has been on the roadmap for a while, but it requires
large changes to the way we store and handle metadata so it'll be
a big undertaking.
At least times played, times skipped, last time played can be
implemented without ambiguity and bikeshedding...
However, is there a standard system for handling song ratings? I'd
rather not invent one if one already exists (I haven't looked into
this at all).
Notes:
* mpd will never, ever modify audio tracks themselves with this metadata.
* This metadata will merely be recorded by mpd, deciding what to do
with this (dynamic playlists and such) will be purely in the hands
of clients.
* With the listener protocol implemented (soon); we may be able to shove
this into a separate, more flexible daemon (it'll be an official
companion project to mpd).
I'm definitely not going to allow this change to mpd while the core
playlist/playback/decoder components are undergoing a heavy refactoring;
so it's at least several months out.
