The
following text can be found in the Corporate Induction
Manual
Introduction
The Core Services Group
comprises a team of specialist managers who oversee the provision
of internal services in the following functions:
- Health & Safety
- Human Resources
- Information Services
- Legal & Risk
- Purchasing
- Quality Management
- Training & Development
The group was created
in late 1999 out of the merger of the URS companies in Europe.
The Team
Graham Ward is the Core
Services Director for URS Europe, is a member of the European Board
and is based in London/Wimbledon office. Graham originally worked
in civil engineering contracting before taking a degree in civil
and structural engineering and a PhD in geotechnical engineering.
The next five years were spent on various boats, barges and offices
doing offshore site investigations, platform installations, pile
driving monitoring and offshore foundation design. Having joined
Dames & Moore in the latter part of this period Graham moved
into the business management stream and now has over ten years experience
of business management with the consulting industry. During this
period Graham has been central to the creation of internal capabilities
for legal and risk management, quality management, and training
and development.
Each of
the Core Services has its own manager who is a specialist in their
particular profession and whose experience is described within.
Graham has PA support from Gwynneth Hamilton, who is also the central
point of contact for Core Services.
What
do they do?
The Core
Services managers are responsible for providing specialist support
to the operational staff. The services of each function are described
in their own section. As a pan-European group it is also our brief
to assist the overall integration of the URS companies in Europe
into a single corporate body and culture. As such it is a key part
of our role to work closely with the staff and the European Board
to create the new URS for Europe.
