Is there any particular reason why Mozilla does not support this at all ? It would sound most useful to me.
Because it's quite complicated in general.
How about a try to make complicated in to simple.
Then make concrete suggestions how to do it if you think it can be solved in a simple way.
We dont need much things, we already have got all the needed field. Dn and Binddn as well, What we need now is the process to Write... dont you think so?
Coming from corporate directories I don't think so. Issues with DIT design, schema, delegated write access come to mind...
IMO it's not worth the effort trying to create a generic solution within Mozilla. I say this as somebody who has implemented a generic (web-based) LDAP client with write access. Either you can implement a generic solution or make it simple to use for the end-user.
It's quite easy to write a small customized web application working on your particular LDAP server based on the specific assumptions you can make in your environment.
Ciao, Michael.
