In Fennec, tap the menu, then "Settings", then "Mozilla Firefox" at the bottom (this might be "Mozilla Firefox Beta" or "Mozilla Nightly" if you're not running release), then "About Nightly". That'll show the current version and a "Check for Updates" button. Alternately, go to the Android Settings App, then tap "Apps", then find "Firefox" and check the version number. There's no way to automatically check for updates if you do it this way.
