Over the last few weeks we've been looking at different ways we can help surface work and progress happening on Mobile Firefox so that people in different timezones can stay abreast of what the team is doing. IRC is great, but scrolling back through the backlog of chat to understand what is going on with the project is hard to do.
With this in mind, we created a public IRC channel, #mobistatus. Each day, team members write an entry stating what they plan on doing today, and a summary of what they achieved yesterday. It's kind of like an asyncronous, IRC based standup. The benefits of this are that members of the team can keep abreast of what everyone is doing, and offer help, advice or comments if required. It also gives the team the ability to track the progress of issues and features and to identify problems as they are happening. The goal of the channel is to keep it free from chatter and noise, so it is easy to read back the status of the project when you come online. Responses to status updates posted in #mobistatus are encouraged to happen in #mobile. So far, it seems to have worked well. We would like to invite all of our contributors to join us in #mobistatus, to share what you are working on day to day, and to keep abreast of what other developers on the project are doing. We look forward to hearing what you are up to, Emily
