As mention in the 2014-03-20 update, we enabled ppp/adb networking over
usb and back filled 2014-03-13 through 2014-03-26. The results were
initially promising, but the behavior over time showed a significant
secular error where the performance would degrade over time until
resetting. This appears to be due to some affect of the devices
rebooting, disconnecting and reconnecting.
I will land the latest ppp/adb patch from
<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=969518> "Bug 969518 -
Autophone - attempt to use reverse tethering so we can use ethernet over
usb instead of wifi" but will call this experiment a failure.
Mark and I have discussed the situation and we have decided that the way
forward is an adb only solution dropping any wifi and the SUTAgent
altogether. This will be tracked in
<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=990601> "Bug 990601 -
Autophone - use adb instead of tcp/ip to control devices, only support
local tests run from local storage."
