Thanks Charles great. Yes it worked first time in Ubuntu 10-04. I just downloaded the Zip file, extracted, went to properties ticked the execute box, set open with to VLC. Then opened the terminal dragged the 'British TV' file into it, pressed enter and the selection menu came up.
