So how much is required exactly for this? Would 4-5Gb be ok?

What software would be required etc. to perform automated mirroring, etc?

I was thinking of maybe having a local server mirror. Due to the high costs of 
international bandwidth, it will be difficult to support such large downloads 
unless you're Maltacom/Datastream (this might be an option...) :-)
