The Maltese spellchecker for Linux is now accessible to users of other platforms, including Windows & Mac, via the above webpage. You can copy & paste Maltese text from, say, MS Word into the edit box provided, click "check spelling" or "iÄÄekkja" and a list of words which weren't found is displayed, together with suggestions for each. The webpage provides either a Maltese-only dictionary, or a combined Maltese+British dictionary, which is useful for documents containing text in both languages. This facility only accepts Maltese text that uses the proper Unicode letters. In other words older systems which depend on specific fonts to visually represent certain characters (eg square brackets) as a Maltese letter, will not work. CIMU's MLS software for MS-Word works fine, as does the Linux keyboard layout. The Maltese spell-checker currently contains around 693,000 unique words. I have tested this with Konqueror v3, Internet Explorer v5 and Netscape v6. Older versions might not work. Netscape 4.76 did not. This service should be considered to be a "Beta" version, since the word list still contains errors. However, when I tested it on the www.gov.mt site, it successfully picked out several common errors. - -- Ramon Casha Malta Linux User Group -- http://linux.org.mt - --------------------------------------------------------------------- You received this message because you are subscribed to the linux mailing list.
