I've looked at it a bit but:

1- we currently still lack features people expect from a MTA so I think
focusing on experimental drafts before filling this gap is not going
to be really useful to our users.

2- I just had a quick look at the specification of DIME a couple times,
so I'm not really qualified to make an informed comment, however the
specification looked a bit complex and I saw a few things which made
me wonder why they would even be in that specification (ie: why does
"crypto-currency" even appear in the spec ?).

3- There are things we can do at the ESMTP level which would bring some
security to all users of nodes supporting the extension while having
backward compatibility for nodes not supporting it. If I can spend a
bit of time working on experimental stuff, I'd rather work there and
   see how DIME evolves first.

Now, if someone wanted to work on making OpenSMTPD DIME compliant I see
no objection as long as it doesn't introduce code bloat because we're a
SMTP server, not a DIME server ;-)
