<snip> Hi, this won't recover your partitions and those things, but as you said your son needs to access his "workfiles" assuming those are pretty standard files, as in mp3/doc/txt/jpg/whatever you should really have a look at the excellent tool photorec (I think there's even an OpenBSD port for it!) It will scan the drive sector wise, looking for known file headers and will allow you to recover them - nice way if you only need those special files - it works very nice.
