SCSI is never inexpensive. Sometimes I spell it $C$I. I'm not
familiar with SuperMicro GEM enclosures, perhaps someone who is could

I'm using dozens of them. I once had an issue where any drive in slot 2
of one of them would always get marked dead after a few days. I had a
spare enclosure, so I swapped it on a Saturday night. Worked fine, so I
sent the other back to SuperMicro. The sent me a new one in return.
So, one problem out of many years of many of them in service, I'd say
they're fine. The warranty department is good too, FWIW.
