I'd always thought it was the other way around: most individuals seem to
use PGP, whereas companies tend to use S/MIME (presumably because PGP
costs nothing so is worthless as far as many businesses are concerned?).

Also I assume you mean MUA, not MTA, since I don't know of any MTAs that
directly support either PGP or S/MIME...
