Hi David,

(I send this to misc because I guess some people may be interested)

go for the T42

I got mine from my institute and have to cope with it... and it's also
fun to help the developers, but -as you say- you'll have more support
for a T42 than from any 6X.

I had in my hands an x31 for a couple of days and I think I heard the
fan kicking in maybe... once? In the case of the x61s it's basically
spinning all the time. The battery life in the X61s is better, that's
for sure. I get some 5-6 hours and with the extended life battery it
could go up to some... 8 hours? Not quite sure. If you need a long
battery life, buy a new 8-cell battery for the T42

Oh, and don't think you'll get better support for the 6X if using
linux, even if it's a version infested with blobs. As far as I can
tell, as of now, OpenBSD is the OS from these two that better works on
the lenovo X61s. I have a dual boot with "ubuntu" (puerk!! this is
only because I need 3D accel. for some stupid reasons sometimes) and
it's a mess. Have a look yourself:

I am considering myself to buy a refurbished T42... but then I'd
choose SXGA(+) if possible. It pays off. I think the latest model
supporting APM was the T43p. But I had a T43p myself and it was noisy
as hell, even in apmd=-C mode.

Cheers,

Pau
