See the ENVIRONMENT section in pkg_add(1). By setting the environment variables for pkg_add you should be able to influence its behaviour. Some combination of FTPMODE and FETCH_CMD (additional flags to ftp, for example) could be what you are looking for. -- Peter N. M.
