Greetings,
I've been running a Debian based firewall for a number of years and have
a need to update the hardware, so have decided to change the OS over to
OpenBSD at the same time.
The box has 4 NICs(identical make/model) and by using 'ifrename' I'm
able to specify which NICs are assigned each particular iface name (i.e.
eth1, eth2) by MAC address. This alleviates the concern of the kernel
assigning 'eth0' (for example) to the improper NIC when rebooting.
I *hate* the linux eth0 thing. The OpenBSD method is starts with a
slot on the pci bus and names your nics in order.
The OpenBSD method is much cleaner. I think you'll like it once it
makes sense to you.
