I guess you mean ptys.
By default the system ships with 1 group of ptys (a group is 62), and
can support up to 15 sets (for a total of 992)
This is partially documented in the pty(4) manual page.
You can add additional sets by running MAKEDEV, this adds 3 more sets:
# cd /dev
# sh MAKEDEV pty1 pty2 pty3
