I have two, em0 and em1

em0:
inet 104.217.196.248 255.255.255.248

And I admit I really don't see what IP addresses I get
with 104.217.196.248/29.
Especially confusing with 104.217.196.249 as the gateway address

You get 6 addresses from that, but one is used by the gateway. Use
104.217.196.250 to 254 for your devices.
