I had the same problem with a computer in the past - if you search the archives, you will find details. Anyway, it was an old IBM machine and got this problem after a BIOS update. I retired it and got a Lenovo which is not having this problem.
Maybe yours is not related, but how can one know if you didn't post a dmesg for your model?
