What I'm thinking of is a tool that would allow one to query whether a daemon is installed, and, for installed daemons, to query what the basic commands for status, start, and stop, are?
I'm also thinking of a roll-register (or similar name) to call from the initialization scripts of daemons I want to be in the roll-call. The roll-register call's parameters could specify the daemon name and the commands that the rollcall tool would look up. I've been thinking of building such a tool, but don't want to dig in and find I'm duplicating effort. (Not that it should be a hard tool to build.) -- Joel Rees
