After several attempts I could not get any action out of the mouse (actually it was a model 800 wireless kb and mouse, not 1000). I gave up and bought a wired kb and used a wired ms mouse I had lying around.
The box didn't say OpenBSD compatible so I guess that's why it didn't work. --J
