To test this hypothesis, I installed a snap om my soekris, which has
256MB of memory and has no sse*. Both ff4 and xxxterm ran fine (but
slow) using remote X on that little machine, accessing
www.financialarmageddon.com and other sites in other tabs.
So my conclusion is that something else is wrong on your machine.
