  hi5 diana!

that touches on somewhat of a hidden meaning or underspoken idea
that i had; i was thinking that new users should really try to
do as much unsupported stuff as they possibly can (go nuts, do
a few make builds with custom CFLAGS and custom kernel, play
with dmassage, make all ports from scratch, etcetc) so long as they
SHUT UP ABOUT IT when things go wrong; or perhaps better, then
go through the supported procedure correctly a few times and
watch how things *really* aren't running much slower and
*really* work. if going through the supported procedure
correctly doesn't work, chances are one incorrectly went through
  the supported procedure correctly. <G>

sooner or later, it is likely that users will gravitate towards
the supported/GENERIC standard configs as they realize that
almost by and large, it's a more effective use of their
own physical lifetime. for the situations where you want
to do something out of the normal band, now you have some
experience to help with. or, an alternative result is that
they really do end up having a happy and successful time
doing everything their own way, and they're good enough at it
to not bother anyone (perhaps that's a bit fantastic).

probably the biggest thing people, incl. myself, are guilty
of is thinking that they did everything right and it is
something in the system that is wrong or suboptimal. what
is more likely to be the case is that the system works bloody
fine, or if not, it is being fixed already by someone
who is making a diff and not just preparing a post about it.

  wow i'm OT.

* ppl should take note that OP *did* put the whole dmesg tho,
which is how he got the right answer in the shortest possible
  amount of time.
