One other consideration is fsck memory use, FAQ14.7 "What are the issues regarding large drives with OpenBSD?" has a rough guideline as to how much is required.
That might be a good thing to keep in mind, but AFAIK that is about partition sizes and not the size of the entire disk. I intend to partition the disk and probably leaving quite some space unpartitioned for future use.
This question was about the entire disk, as seen by the hw/BIOS/OS. I am sorry if I was not clear enough about that.
