The car is an '84 190D 2.2....
What would cause an intermittent ticking noise that sounds like its
valve-train related (intake sounds different as well with the noise)?
The noise seems to show up when its been idling for a little bit (30
seconds or so). The noise won't go away until the engine is revved high
(3500 rpm or so). I think it has something to do with the hydraulic
lifters, and I seem to remember the OM60x engines had something that was
known to break in the valvetrain...
Any ideas?
