An example could be Intel SDK guys initially uploading stuff to
internal Intel servers or us in N900 team uploading to an internal
Nokia exchange area for our QA images. So it's not only images but
also random file exchange, such as SDK installers, etc..

OK, so where can I submit random kickstart files for inclusion in
build/ repos or getting upload rights there?

That'd sound like a cool place, but it's the first time I've heard of
this being used as such :)

Even '1.1.80.8.20101130.1/' repos and to some extent images are
semi-official weekly releases and imported by vendors.
