Thanks for the clarification Juha. I thought I was creating an entirely new NAND image rather than just the kernel portion. Now that I've downloaded the NAND image from the release I am able to launch the image in QEMU. I have it working and your command line parameters look fine if you are using a known-good NAND image as a base and only writing your kernel in it with qflasher. If you are trying to create a completely new NAND image you need more than just the kernel to put in the NAND image.
