But in the sreadahead source I don't see any code handling SIGUSR1
handling this scenario, but I do see a init script that starts the
packing. Am I wrong in assuming the rc.sysinit part is either wrong or
a obsolete piece of script?
Looking at the code in my
"meego-handset-ia32-aava-mtf-1.0.80.15.20100813.1-sda.bin" image, it
exhibits the same issue.

Could it be a version mismatch? I am confused about MeeGo's sreadahead
repository[0] and Google's[1].

The rc.sysinit code that Carsten noticed is consistent with the Google
Code's 1.0 README[2], which mentions SIGUSR1:
"If this is too late, one can send sreadahead a SIGUSR1 signal at
any time before this 15 seconds, to make sreadahead immediately stop
tracing and create a pack file."

But that stuff is missing in MeeGo's README[3], which mentions the
init script stuff instead, and also in the code...

So maybe we have an additional scenario: the rc.sysinit script is ok,
but it is intended to be used with Google's sreadeahead, and the wrong
piece would be the /etc/rc5.d/S99sreadahead-pack script...

we're not using the "google" sreadahead.
