Hello
i want a new mobile phone and did therefore a research for the
hardware and operating systems.
IPhone is too expensive and scanning all the environment for wlans.
Android it totally google tracking, but very popular at the moment
with the samsung galaxy i9000
samsung as well has the Wave phone out with their operating system bada.
Symbian is referred to the old monochrome phones, maybe new symbian3
is for smartphones ideal.
Windows phone 7 will come out soon and might be a competitor for meego.
Android is really too tracking and though very popular as said, so
winphone7 and android will be the competitors of meego,

My point is, that the n8 will be released too late, so that the meego
n8 is too late to be a competitor for winphone7 and the android
phones. nearly every second new phone has android.. what a mess!

Will there be an update firmware button to switch n8-00 symbian to
n8-01 meego online? or does nokia try to sell the product twice?
Bada offers 3 Million dollars for the developers of bada-apps, and the
start thread claim, that the meego developers need a cheap hardware to
develop for nokia is still true!!!!

Now we know: n-series and n8 will be the first phones in 2011. ok,
time is late, but better quality than quick and dirty, but then we
need NOW a phone sold only to developers. Yes, the n900 can be used,
but who will pay 500 euro for it? As the n8 is the one for the
release, I want to request once more with this mail a cheaper n900
BETA for developers only with a meego developer beta pre-installed on
it. That could be offered over amazon or a nokia shop page.

The n900 with meego developer beta should cost 250 euro. Such a fat
clunky phone is not usable for every day usage in the jeans pocket. So
allow developers to get it and involve all compilers to bring their
software on it, then it is a success.
Meego on n8 in 03/2010 is really a year to late, as bada is there,
win7phone will come out soon and android is already in every second
phone.

Third, we need to switch the installers from rpm to deb, Debian and
ubuntu is a really great community, which will bring all ubuntu apps
on meego. No one is familiar with rpm formats.

So the community needs
a) TIME: an early involvement, so this summer
b) HARDWARE: a cheap nokia n900 for 250 euro as a developer version
with meego beta on it in August
c) COMMUNTIY: .deb as installers
d) a Qt 4.7 release with a meego compatible compiler.

So that are the needs.
How should Nokia manage that? Why is the Symbian updated and meego
parallel developed? Can developers from the symbian team join the
meego team to speed up meego? There are many Qt and c++ coder at
nokia, not involved in meego.
Please transfer the people to meego. There need not to be a price for
the best app, but a subscription price for developers for the n900
developer meego beta. Please find a way to send one to every developer
offering a meego/qt app, maybe after a registering process to offer a
qt app to build it on meego. Send them the phones for free. Like
google summer of code, not every student has success, to have an app
ready in the end, but many developers would want to take a n900 to
develop for nokia their qt app for meego.
Qt 4,7 should auto-create DEB-Packages as Installer Files. Then the
community will be involved.

and fifth, intel needs to develop an MeegoPad. So that meego on this
kind of netbook is a competitor of the Ipad.

The N8-01 - or at least the N8-00 with firmware update button, needs
to be present before chrsitmas 2010, and the same for the MeegoPad.

Sixth: The N8 needs wlan Tethering, so that the meegoPads can join the
wlan with any N8 in the room.
Is Tethering in the N8 given like in the Samsung android Galaxy i9000 ?

Any comments?

good to hear, that meego 1.0 mobile day1 is earlier out than meego 1.1,
though many developers have problems installing it, working with a SDK
is not so nice as working with a phone hardware.
As announced, there is an update service, so it would make sense to
sell a developer hardware phone soon!
why is the N8 - or any other older n Series phone - as a developer
phone with meego on it not sold ? with a working software button to
flash it with the actual meego version?
then every developer would buy such a developer phone with meego on
it. make an ordering process on any developer page and if needed
request the emailadress from this mailinglist.
that mobile should be cheap as well, man! Bada sends 2 Million dollars
to the developers, and meego developers here on the list, est. 450,
even do not get a subscribed meego-phone for less.
either you want to count on the community, then include it in the
development on hardware, or not.
