Hi there,

You don't really need an intermediate step.

There's also an piwik which should be upgraded and i would be happy not to have two installations which may go wrong if the php version is upgraded. So from http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Compatibility#PHP I learn that mw 1.19 goes with php 5.2 and higher. Which could be a nice intermediate step to be sure that everything is working before I switch to php > 5.2.

You could install php 5.3+ somewhere along with a copy of your site
using one of the stable MediaWiki releases and do the upgrade.

All you need is a dump of the database, any custom stuff (your images/
folder, LocalSettings, custom additions), an up to date copy of
MediaWiki, and an updated set of extensions you're using.

I would ftp everything before I do any changes but how do I have an updated set of extensions?

cheers h
