Install this extension: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ConfirmAccount And this line to localSettings: $wgWhitelistRead = array ( "Main Page", "Special:Userlogin", "Help:Contents", "Special:RequestAccount"); voila! unregistered users can now only see those three pages... and to register, you have to "request" an account... bureaucrats have the ability to grant/deny access.
