If your hosting service tells you you can run the script, they probably have a utility to allow you to do so. You're not the only one who runs Mediawiki software on a hosted service. Contact your hosting service and find out how they support running scripts. You can also try products like PHP Shell (http://phpshell.sourceforge.net/).
