Does this work for blocking too? Apparently the colon ":" also causes
problems, see logs:

That's how this unblockable user was able to do page-move vandalism
continuously for over 30 minutes.

I'd argue that usernames containing deprecated characters should be
automatically renamed or locked out pending a rename.
