hi,
i ve got a wierd problem connecting the line out jack from my PC
soundcard to an input on my stereo reciever. it used to work fine, but
suddenly, the amp was shutting itself down, some kind of failsafe. it only
happened when the AUX is used, which is where the rca cables( 1/8 in.
minijack cable to rca's) from the card are plugged into.you can actually see
a spark jump from the jack to the soundcard input when you connect them. i
plugged in a protable cd walkman to the cables, and all worked fine, so i
dont think there are shorts in the rca cables. i believe its got to do with
proper grounding of the units.
the reciever has a two prong, polarized plug. i ran a ground cable
fromn the chassis of the reciever to the chassis of my pc. touching the
ground cable to the PC chassis also causes a spark. with the two units
grounded together, the amp works, but the monitor display behaves funny, it
gets jiggly. i disconnected the ground and havent used the sound cars since.
i'm thinking of grounding both the pc and amp chassis to a cold water
pipe, which i guess would be the ultimate of grounds. if anyone has any
ideas about this , please let me know before i blow up the pc, the map, or
both.
thanks much
