hi,
i was recently given a free sony DAT deck . i thought being that i now
have a deck, i may as well have a DAT portable , so i bought a used sony
7( in perfect working order, just serviced.). i set up my mics in my
basement, along with my soundprofesionals premium binaural mics and bass
rolloff/battery box. i recorded snippets of a song with both my mz-r37 and
the sony D7 DAT. i then recorded the snippets to cool edit thru optical
cables. i normalized the waves to 100% to account for variation in the input
levels while recording on two different units. i used line in on both,
manual level adjustment. the mics were 2 ft away from the speaker.
i would like for anyone interested to grab these files from me and give
them a listen. those really in the know can do spectrum analysis and what
ever else is available to do this kind of comparison besides the ears. i
will for now withhold my opinion, and really am interested in what others
honestly think. i can upload the files( 4) to my www.idrive.com account.
the largest is 1.4 meg, the smallest around 1 meg. the music i chose was
something to hopefully be useful for this type of thing.

if you can help, contact me off list. hopefully, my methods are valid,
and will shed light on MD vs DAT .

thanks much
