I was in the internet Minidisk business for 2 years.

The difference is the perceived value of the discs. As I stated before, H S
may be a great disc, but it it's name is not a house hold word. Why do people
buy "brand names" at the supermarket rather then the store brand?
The store brand may be as good or better, but psychologically people think that
the "brand name" product is better. Price is not judged by the actual quality
of an item, but rather the perceived value.
Selling only one brand of disc, you have no idea how fussy MD people are.
Every month we would get a request for another specific blank. I'm not talking
brand. I'm saying specific color, "model number" etc.
These people were willing to pay more money for these discs even though some of
the, in my humble opinion, we not as good as discs selling for far less.
The MD market is a very strange one. How often do you hear people saying "when
I was in Thailand they were selling butter for 2 cents a pound?? But in the
mini disc community this type of statement is common.
The other strange thing that I have found is that people will hassle over
price. Even pennies. Then be willing to pay $50 more for next day delivery.
