A unit this big playing only MP3 really makes very little sense, unlike
a portable DVD player. Yet as nice as portable DVD players are, a really
nice laptop makes much, much more sense. You can plug all the following
now or soon into one of these cool workhorses:

DVD-ROM or DVD-RAM/RW
Wireless Internet Connection
MP3 or MiniDisc capability (MP3 can't be that bad, after all, the
compression rate is 10:1, as opposed to MD's 5:1, yet, DVD is far more
compressed as is DSS and HDTV and they both work very well.)
Wireless HDTV/HDTV Satellite Receiver
All current laptop applications
Mobile Phone/Video Phone Capabillity
MD Camcorder or Other DV Camcorder
All probably weighing 5 pounds or less, eventually.

Don't count MP3 as a non player. It is very viable. (I want to get my
hands on an MD Video Camcorder, even though they can only hold ten
minutes of high quality MPEG-2 Video per disc (and at 400 lines of
resolution are rated less than the 500 lines of resolution I currently
receive from my Sony TRV-900 3CCD MiniDV Camcorder.)
