I can take credit only for checking the procedure out on the JE520 and for
writing it out in excruciating detail. The first people who posted direc-
tions for cloning on older Sony decks deserve the credit for publicizing
the function and perhaps for discovering it.
Thank you, Petr, for your detailed post about these new units and for your
comparable article about the JE520 last year.
| User manual says, that you can record up to
| 255 tracks, but I think, that you can create
| only up to 255 *fragments*. Number of fragments
| is usually greater than number of tracks
| due to disc fragmentation.
You can have only up to 255 segments (a term I prefer to "fragment" for this
use), but it is possible for each track to comprise one segment and thus to
have 255 tracks. I've done it [only to see if it could be done, of course].
| Y stands for track mode (mono/stereo) and other flags:
| Y=4 mono
| Y=6 stereo
Y=5 mono with preemphasis
Y=7 stereo with preemphasis
| TTTT: I don't know the exact meaning of this display,
| but it depends on the type of recording machine
| You can check on which machine the track was recorded.

| I met the following codes:
| 0126 Sony MZ-R30
| 0127 Sony MZ-R50
| 0143 unknown machine
| 0144 Sony MDS-JE303
| 0146 both Sony MDS-JE500 and JE510
| 0147 Sony MDS-B5 professional deck
| 014A Sony MDS-JE520
| 014D Sony MDS-JB920, JB730, JE330, JE530
| 0000 premastered disc
The MZ-R3 registers as 0124, the MDS-W1 as 014C, and the Aiwa AM-F70 as 0D0A.
