They appear to me to be pretty standard protocols these days. For example, many if not most of the newer still cameras from the various major brands are using PTP, and libgphoto2 contains support for it. And, historically, I understand that PTP originally grew out of MTP and the two protocols are in fact closely related. To support them in MC might be an interesting idea.
